When you’re smiling, a whole town smiles with you. At that’s what will happen when you visit these two Colorado places, according to Expedia.

Manitou Springs and Aspen are among the top 20 friendliest cities in the U.S., according to a list compiled by the travel site Expedia. Coming in at No. 3, Manitou Springs is described as a place where “art lovers will enjoy the galleries, restaurants and boutiques” and “can even spring for a hot air balloon ride.” The town at the base of Pikes Peak is also known for the Incline, a popular trail, and the Broadmoor in nearby Colorado Springs, which has a 61-year streak as a Forbes five-star hotel.

Rounding out the rankings is Aspen at No. 20. Expedia stated that the mountain town was a great place to “get an ‘altitude’ adjustment with ski and snowboard rental packages, snowshoeing and more.” Aspen Snowmass recently extended its ski season, adding one more week for winter sports enthusiasts to enjoy the open air. Travelers can fly in and out of Aspen through carbon-offset flights with the Good Traveler program. Its food scene is also attracting some of the nation’s top chefs, and its resorts are highly ranked in some leading publications.

Topping Expedia’s list of the U.S. friendliest cities is Whitefish, Montana, described as an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts. Colorado, Maine and Hawaii are the states to have multiple cities on the list. The rankings were determined by examining online reviews by Expedia users between January 2019 and December 2020 with high mentions like “friendly, friendliest, amiable,” and similar words.
